RAINFOREST FACTS
November 26th, 2007There are many rainforest facts that people should know about and if people were educated about the rainforest, then maybe, they would help with stopping the problems with the rainforest depletion and deforestation. People should be aware of the speed the rainforests are disappearing the how many plants contain anti-cancer properties.
Did you know that the rainforest covers less than 2% of the Earth’s surface, but provides a home to over 50% of the world’s plants and animals? Rainforests are not only in the Amazons, they also are on every continent on Earth, with the exception of Antarctica.
Rainforest facts also suggest that the depletion of the rainforest has something to do with global warming. This is because the world’s rainforests regulate the weather patterns and temperatures. The Amazon Basin contains a fifth of the fresh water supply of the world. Depleting the rainforest will deplete the worlds’ supply of drinking and fresh water.
Rainforest facts also include that the rainforest has more living creatures than anywhere in the world. Just four square miles of the rainforest contains over 2800 species of flowering plants, butterflies, trees, and birds.
Many of the plants, herbs, trees, and products that come from the rainforest are used in medicines and for treating cancer. The National Cancer Institute has identified over 65% of the plants found only in the rainforest can be useful in providing treatment to cancer, which means that over 2,000 of the plants in the tropical forest are identified as containing anti-cancer properties.
Rainforest facts conclude that all of the rainforests around the world provide everyone a huge benefit and they create a balance in the Earth with the temperatures, the fresh water, and the air. The amount of living creatures and life in the rainforests is substantial and larger than any other part of the world. The benefits to Rainforests include cancer research with a couple thousand of the plant life and providing other types of medicines to people who are suffering from other illnesses.
If everyone could be educated on all of the Rainforest facts, maybe we could save the rainforests from being depleted. The facts above are only a couple of the hundreds of amazing facts about the rainforests.
